Random Stuff

Just an FYI for those of you who are interested, Macey's will be starting their case lot sale on September 17th. I look forward to this sale all summer.

Yesterday, I went to S-girl's school to help in the classroom during the last hour of school. It was so much fun. I loved being able to see her in action, and to see all of the kids the goes to school with and what they do in class. She really does have a wonderful teacher. S-girl was excited to see me there too. Her class was at recess when I arrived there, so it was great to see them all come back to class, ready to start learning again. S-girl has been asking me when I was going to come to her class like all of the other parents had. I've been trying to make it over for the past month, but things just kept coming up, so this was the first time it worked out. I'm really glad I could go before she goes off track next week. It's a good thing too because she has been sleeping in, and I have been waking her up for school in the morning, so it will be nice for her to have a break for three weeks.

There were two different cute little blond hair boys who come up to us when school was over and said "Is this your mom, you look just like her!" It was so cute. S-girl just smiled and said "yes". I guess I don't really notice how much we look alike until people comment on it. I remember people saying the same thing about me and my mom when I was a little girl too. So, now the question is, how much does S-girl look like her grandma? I'll have to get a photo of the two of them together and post it, so you can see them together.

I have been wishing for a "normal" week for the past month or so, and I think we have finally arrived! There is nothing like things being "not normal" to make you appreciate the "normal". Opposition in all things right? Anyway, we have been able to get back into a routine of getting up early. The kids are sleeping so much better. It's amazing how much better we feel after not having been interrupted at night. Although I-girl has been laying on the couch in the afternoon and falling asleep, which is nice that she takes a little nap, but then it is 11:00 p.m. before she will go to bed at night. She usually ends up in our room and after wiggling around for a half hour or so, she finally falls asleep. So, today, I'm on "no nap for you" patrol. I need to do whatever it takes to keep her awake. So, even though it might be tempting for her to fall asleep while S-girl is practicing piano, I cannot let it happen anymore!

Anyway, back to our normal week. Mike's boss gave us some apples this week. Yesterday, I cut them up and made apple pie filling. There were three quarts total (one is missing from this photo because Mike took it to his boss today). I love to make pie filling, and it is so nice to have on hand when you need a quick dessert. We found the recipe for bottled pie filling on the USU Extension's website.

We will usually make a cobbler with it for a quick Sunday sweet treat. It's the easiest recipe, and so yummy.

Dumbbell Cake
1 quart pie filling (or 2 cans)
2 T brown sugar
1 cup chopped nuts
1 t cinnamon
1 box white or yellow cake mix
1/2 cup butter or margarine

Spread pie filling in a 9 X 13 inch pan. Sprinkle with nuts, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Sprinkle dry cake mix over top. Cut butter into pieces and dot it all over the top of mix, Bake at 350 for 1 hour.
I was also able to do four quarts of beans this week. This is such a great way to help me remember what we can from year to year. I'm always trying to remember "Now, what was it that we did last year, and what time of year was it?" Now, next year, I'll be able to look back and see.

Last night, the girls played outside until it was dark. When I looked out at them, this is what I saw. It was a beautiful sunset last night, and they must have thought so too.

Little M-boy never ceases to amaze me. He loves to be in the kitchen, and yesterday he cried when I walked away from the stove to the other side of the kitchen. The other day, he found a hot pad and a spoon and was walking around the house with them. Who needs a truck when you have a hot pad? It would make Mike so proud if he had his own cooking show on PBS someday.

I like that sweet picture of the girls and the sunset.

That is so cute! D loves to be with me, but doesn't need to be "in" it. Annie is the same as I-girl taking late naps and then not going to sleep on time. How nice to have a normal week. Ours stinks because Rick and I both hurt our backs, but at least its not the kids. Oh and D only likes the playpen when we are outdoors and not at home. He prefers it to being held because he'd put everything in his mouth if we let him go.
