ER Visit
On Friday night, my parents invited us to go with them to the Pioneer Day Concert at the Conference Center. We had a great time, and really enjoyed the concert. The Osmond's sang, along with the Tabernacle Choir. After the concert, we were waiting in the hall, and saw a girl being wheeled to the First Aid room, who was having a seizure. Mike and I both looked at each other, thinking about the times when we have seen our two youngest children have seizures, and it sent shivers through both of us. Little did we know, that three days later, we would be witnessing the same thing in our son for the third time in his life.
He started running a fever yesterday morning. I took the kids to the store to find Scotlyn a new shirt to wear on her first day of school. (all she wanted was a Hannah Montana shirt) We came home shortly afterwards. I started alternating tylenol and ibuprofen every three hours to try to control the fever. He took a good nap, but woke up not feeling very well at all. He was really clingy and acting very tired. After Mike got home, he called our home teacher who came over and helped give M-boy a blessing.
About 20 minutes later, I took him back in his room to put him to sleep, and as I was rocking him, he layed his head on my shoulder, but jerked, like he was going to sleep, and then I noticed he was staring into space. I laid him on the floor and called Mike in. This seizure was not like the other two he has had. He mostly stared. In fact, we even wondered if he was in a seizure, because he didn't shake like he had in the past. He drooled a lot, and his had would open and close in the rhythmic pattern. At 5 minutes, we administered the rescue med, and then called 911. The paramedics came just seconds after it finished. It lasted about 13 minutes, even after we had given him the medicine to help him pull out of it. That is really what worried us. He didn't pull out of it as fast as we had thought after the rescue med was given. The paramedics suggested that they transport him to the hospital, but we just had been through this in March, and the ride between here and hospital was $240.00 just for our portion. So, we decided that we would drive him there ourselves. The sherrif was nice enough to follow us there. The hopsital is only a mile or so from our house. Our nice neighbor came down and stayed with the girls until my parents were able to get here. They didn't find anything wrong with M-boy, probably just a virus, but his seizures are so long, and atypical of a "normal" febrile seizure, that they concern us a lot. A normal febrile seizure only lasts 2-5 minutes.
Here are some photos from the hospital. He was flicking ice water all over him and laughing. At least it cooled him down. His temperature when we got to the hospital was 102.
