San Diego - Day 2

The next morning, Thursday, we woke up to a lot of fog. We couldn't even see the water from our balcony when we first woke up. This picture was taken as we were eating breakfast. When the sun came up, the fog cleared up.
This picture was taken outside of our balcony. The fog had started to clear.

This is what the courtyard looked like outside our balcony. There were lemon and grapefruit trees everywhere.

Mike took a taxi into his training and I stayed back in the hotel until about 11:00. It was a nice, relaxing morning. I read on the balcony for most of the morning, and watched the fog clear. Around 11:00, I decided to try the public transportation, and hopped on a bus that had a stop on the main road about a 5 minute walk from the hotel. It was a 45 minute ride into downtown San Diego, which I really enjoyed being able to see more of the city. Mike called me when I was about 20 minutes away from downtown to say he was on his lunch break, so we were able to meet up during lunch and take a walk around downtown. Petco Park (where the San Diego Padres play baseball) was right by where his training was, and we took these pictures. There was a security guard there that was really nice and funny. I heard him tell another man that this was his dream job because he was able to be outside all day and got to talk to people, his two favorite things. Although, we could not get him to take a photo of us because he was worried about liability issues. What a nice man he was.

When Mike had to go to training the rest of the afternoon, I walked around the town by myself. It was kind of scary, but I met a really nice couple who directed me to the mall, so I spent the rest of the afternoon there, going from store to store. It tried to fit in and not act like a tourist. I took a picture of this outside ice skating rink. At night, there were a lot of people there.

Yet, another photo we took for Ivy. Everything in her world has to be pink.

After Mike was finished with training, we spent the next hour walking around town looking for a place to eat dinner. We couldn't find anything that we agreed on, so we ended up at the Hard Rock Cafe. It was yummy.

After dinner, we walked to the bus stop. I was pretty cold, even though I had my jacket on. When we got on the bus, we talked to a nice man, who asked us if we were lost, as we looked at our map. Then he asked us where we were from. We said "Utah", and then came the inevitable, question "Are you Mormons?" Yes, we said. Then I anticipated questions about Prop 8, but he never did ask. He just said "Your church takes good care of people right?" We told him yes, then he asked what made us different from mainstream Christian religions. Mike was so good about explaining the Godhead to him, then he started asking us about the coins we have. We were not quite sure what he was asking about, and then he had to get off of the bus. I felt like I was on my mission again, it was a great feeling. I hope someday Mike and I will be able to go on a mission.
