San Diego - Day 1
What an amazing, inspiring, relaxing, fun, fun, fun, trip this was. I'm still in awe that I was in San Diego for five days. It was wonderful. Last Wednesday, Mike and I took off in the morning. We arrived there at 1:00 in the afternoon. It was warm and breezy. We went to our hotel, which was on Coronado Island. It was a beautiful hotel.
This was where we ate our meals. It was so pretty eating outside, right by the ocean.
At every meal, our little bird friends would join us looking for the crumbs that we were sure to leave behind.

This photo was taken at the back of the hotel. You can see the Coronado Bay bridge in the background. It was a beautiful view.

Mike was able to get a really good picture of one of the navy ships.

After we ate lunch, we went to the beach, which was a short walk from the hotel. This was one of my favorite things to do while we were there. It was so beautiful and we were able to get a bunch of seashells for the kids. We were there for at least two hours. I loved the sound of the waves.

We took this picture for Ivy. She is always saying that Mason is a dog and then she will close the door to her bedroom and say "no dogs allowed".
The next two pictures are of the hotel where we stayed. We took them when we walked back to the hotel from the beach.

So, as you can tell, this hotel was in a remote location. There was not any other eating establishments anywhere close to it, so what was in the hotel was pretty much what you got, unless you went closer to the main island. Mike and I did not have a rental car, so we mostly stayed at the hotel the first day. That night, we went to the restaurant in the hotel. We knew we were in trouble when we looked at the menu and the cheapest thing on it was the mushroom ravioli for $23.00. It was already 8:00, so even if we did take the bus further into the island, we would be getting home really late, and Mike had training the next morning, so we really didn't have any other option. I need to mention here that this is a different restaurant than the one where we ate most of our meals that are in the photos above. That one was more reasonable (as far as hotel food goes) than this one. The one above was only open for breakfast and lunch. The one we were at this night was only open for dinner. Do you think they planned that right? Anyway, Mike and I both ordered the ravioli. When we finally got our meal, we counted 5 ravioli, yes 5. So, we ate, thinking that we would order dessert, feeling justified by the size of the meal. When we ordered dessert, all we wanted was a chocolate cake. Mike asked the waiter if he had a chocolate cake, he pointed to something on the menu, rambled off something about 3 different chocolates from three different countries, and Mike told him that is what we wanted. It took forever to get to us. I kept thinking "how long does it take to cut a piece of cake?" The waiter came back and said "Sorry it's taking so long, they are cooking the cake from scratch". Okay, what from scratch? At this point, we were really wondering what type of cake we would be getting. During this time, Mike mentioned something about a ding dong, but I don't remember what he said. So, about 10 minutes later, here comes our waiter with our cake. Okay so try and picture this: (Unfortunately, I didn't have my camera, and our room was at least a 1/4 of a mile walk away from where we were)

Rectangular plate, 12 in X 6 in. On the left side one extremely small cup of "sipping chocolate", just to the right of that, one small, half the size of a normal cupcake, cake. just to the right of that, two small pieces of chocolate, and just to the right of that, two small little dabs of raspberry dipping sauce. We got all of this for only $14.00! I could not stop laughing. The rest of the night, I could not look our waiter in the eye. I kept laughing so hard. And any of you who know Mike, knows he has a really great sense of humor, which he used to the fullest extent that night.
Well, that about does it for the first day in San Diego. What a great day it was!
