The past few days......
I don't have any pictures to post, just a few things that have been going on the past few days.
First of all, for the past 8 weeks, Mike has been participating in the "Farewell to Fat" contest at the Aquatic Center. He was on a team with four other people, competing against 10 (or so) other teams of 5 people to see who lost the most amount of weight in an 8 week period. Mike came in 3rd place overall, losing just over 29 pounds. My neighbor and her husband took first and second places (they were both on Mike's team). So, their team as a whole took first place. I'm so proud of Mike, he has been working so hard to get to this point. He has lost 72 pounds since he first started his weight loss journey 2 years ago. He looks great, and says he feels even better. When he came home from the final weigh in, he had a case of "perfect" water that he won, and two free massages, which he gave to me. I was very excited, and asked him if he was sure he wanted to give them to me. He said yes, and that he didn't want anyone touching his back. One of them is a hot stone massage, which I will be getting Thanksgiving weekend, I'm very excited about that.
On Tuesday, my friend Carley and her kids came over for the afternoon. It's always so much fun to get together, and the kids play together so well.
On Tuesday night, I got together with two friends from High School. Two of us have birthdays in September, and one in October, so we celebrated by eating at The Olive Garden, (my favorite restaurant.) It was so much fun to get together. We had a great night. I'm glad we still keep in contact even after all of these years.
Yesterday we had a very productive morning. Ivy, Mason and I went to get the tires rotated and the oil changed in the van. Because Goodyear is close to Smith's grocery store, whenever we go there, instead of waiting in the waiting room, which is not very kid friendly, we took a walk to the grocery store. We bought doughnuts and ate them. Ivy remembered the last time we were there in the summer, because as soon as we got to the store, she said "let's go get doughnuts and sit down and eat them". Mason was so tired, because he woke up at 6:15, so instead of eating his doughnut, he threw a fit in the grocery store. Thank goodness for leftover Halloween suckers which I store in my diaper bag for times such as these. That settled him down, and then he wanted a doughnut. While we were there, Mike called to tell me that we needed two new tires on the van. Apparently two of the tires were beyond being called safe anymore. I'm really glad I took it in when I did. So, we ended up getting two new tires on the van too. We have been working so hard this month to stay in our budget, so this will put us over, but luckily this is where our "unexpected" expenses budget comes in. After we picked up the van, we had a few minutes until we needed to pick up Scotlyn, so we went to Kohl's. I had a $10.00 off coupon to use and Mason needed new PJ's. It worked out great. They were $9.99 and I didn't even have to pay tax because the original price was under $10.00 by one cent. Sweet!
Yesterday, around noon, while I was making lunch, Ivy was acting really tired. I felt her and sure enough, she had a fever. I noticed that Ivy had a really runny nose in the morning, but she seemed to be fine otherwise. Last night Ivy laid in bed with us, and yes, she did have a seizure at about 9:05 last night. It lasted two minutes, and she was actually somewhat coherent during it. She started to fall asleep just before it happened and then woke up very suddenly, that was when we knew something wasn't right. She didn't shake, she just stared. Mike even asked her to look at him during it and she would, so we knew she was hearing what we said. Mike gave her a blessing during the seizure, and she pulled out of it during the blessing.
I hope that they are all well and healthy next week. Mike and I leave for San Diego on Wednesday. Mike had to go down for work, and we had Sky Miles so we were able to buy me a ticket too. Mike will come home Friday night, and my mom, sister in law and sister are coming Friday morning, so I will be staying until Sunday night. I'm so excited, I've only been to California one other time, my junior year of high school for the choir trip.
That has been one of my concerns that the kids would be sick while we are gone, I just have to have faith that everything will be alright.
I'm so grateful for the knowledge of the gospel. I don't know how I would make it though these trying times if it were not for knowing that there is a plan, and that because Jesus Christ overcame this world, we can too. This is all a part of the plan. If there were not struggles, there would be no growth. What a blessing to know that the Lord trusts us enough to go through these trials and challenges to make us stronger so we can be worthy of his kingdom. I still find these experience tough, I still get discouraged, but knowing there is purpose in our trials makes going through them more manageable. Life is good.
