Our First Ever Candy Making Kitchen
Mike and I both had the urge this year to make candy for Christmas. This was our first attempt ever in the almost 10 years that we have been married to try such a feat. It was so much fun. We both decided that it is more fun to make it than it is to eat it, and we have given away all of it but some of the divinity. Most of it we left at my parents house on Sunday night when we went there for a Christmas party, which I will write more about later.

And the English Toffee.
We did learn some handy tips along the way, like, never use a plastic spoon when you are making toffee.

And, when you are heating up the toffee mixture, it needs to be heated very slowly, or the butter and sugar separate, like this:

This is the fudge that I attempted, but it did not turn out very well. Next year, I'll try my mom's recipe, it's called five minute fudge, very yummy, and a lot easier than this recipe, you don't need a candy thermometer.

Mason found a job that he was very good at, helping Daddy chop nuts. He kept scooting a chair over into the stove, or the sink so he could stand up and see what we were doing, or play in the water. Every time, we would move the chair back over to the table, and he would throw a fit. I felt really bad, but it was just not a good place for him to be. One time, to try to make peace, I gave him a measuring cup with a few chocolate chips, which he proceeded to throw all over the floor because he was so mad. Wow, little boys don't hesitate to tell you how they feel, do they? Ivy found the chocolate chips later.
Ahh, Divinity! When I was a little girl, my grandma would always make divinity every year, which was always my favorite. I attempted to make it last week, without any success, it turned out all runny. Then after doing some research on the Internet, I felt like I could make the attempt again. I was really pleased with the result. My dad even said he has not had divinity like this since his mom passed away, it made me feel good. This is for you Grandma!
So, here is some pictures of our final products. We also made Orange Hazelnut Merainges, Candy Cane Truffles (these are my favorites, and so very easy!) and Mike made marshmallows! Who knew you couldmake homemade marshmallows?
