Little Helpers

I have to admit that I have a hard time letting my kids help with the housework. It's much easier just to do the job myself, and have it done right. BUT..... I also realize that this is such a disservice to my kids. It's not teaching them anything, in fact, what it does teach them is that mom does everything around the house. As they grow older, they will realize that life it not that way, and that mom will not always be there to do everything. So, I have really been trying to slow down and let my kids help more. They will be more grateful for it as they grow older. I realize that they will not do things perfect, but the important thing is that they are helping and they really enjoy helping. Scotlyn love to make eggs in the morning, and she does a great job with it.
The kids all really love to help clean the bathrooms, (one of the thing I do not enjoy myself, but I'm glad my kids do). Mason and Ivy's favorite job is cleaning the toilets. This picture grosses me out. I don' t have a picture of Ivy helping, but she does help too. So what are the kids doing right now? Making cereal for breakfast while I update my blog!

I agree completely. Sometimes it has actually been nice to have them help out and the end product is pretty good. I love when kids become a little independent and want to help. I am sure the "wanting to help" phase will end soon :)

Scotlyn's Birthday Party

Scotlyn's birthday is this coming Thursday, but because her birthday always falls around General Conference time, we try to have her party the week before conference. She has been counting down the days until her party all week. It was a lot of fun, and was so nice to have her party outside this year. Every year on her birthday, the weather has been cold, until this year. This is a picture of her a couple of days ago, when she decided she was going to build a hot air balloon and fly to Salt Lake. She packed a change of clothes in her backpack and took food with her in the box. She also had a few toys with her, but when she was ready to fly, she realized that there was not room for her to sit in the box. She kept saying to me, "Mom, this is really going to work. I'm going to Salt Lake, I'll be back later". It was too cute. She never did make it to Salt Lake, but she didn't seem too disappointed that she didn't fly. I love how at this age, they lo...
