Mother's Day Weekend
I love Mother's Day more and more every year. It's such a wonderful day to reflect upon the mother's that have brought me to this point, and to realize how important my job is. If not for Mother's, life would not exist. It's a holy and sacred calling. Thanks to all of the moms out there who teach me and are such wonderful examples to me, especially my mom.
For mother's day this year, Mike bought me sod. I was so excited! This is where he put it. My dad and my brother came out on Saturday and helped Mike put it down. It looks so good around our square foot garden boxes, and things are starting to grow! We have peas and beets coming up.
Next week for Enrichment I'll be teaching a class on SFG. It is the only way I will garden now. Last year, these five planter boxes produced more beans than the last five years combined of our old garden. It's so easy, and once the boxes are built and filled, the weeding is just about non-existent. Now, I can enjoy my garden instead of stressing over it.
We have a box of raspberries, which are transplants my parents gave us that came from my Grandma, who I remember gardening in her raspberries every day. It's nice to have such a wonderful reminder of her. We are also planting a box full of strawberries this year. The three other boxes we will use to rotate beans, beets, onions, peppers and tomatoes. We also have grapes growing along the outside of the garden. This is just what I have always wanted!
I'm so excited about how nice it looks.
Eventually I would like to put a bench out there. When Mike and I moved to this house, we said it would take us about 5 years to have the yard the way we wanted it to be. Well, it was five years in April since we moved here. There are still a few minor things to do, but for the most part, it is how we want it to be. Around the fire pit, we are going to put stone. The kids will be sad when there is not as much dirt to play with anymore!
That night, we had some friends over that we knew when we lived in Salt Lake. It was such a nice night. Our kids are about the same ages, so they had a great time as well.
