M-boys MRI

M-boy had his MRI on Friday. We are so glad that we had been through this once before with I-girl because it made this time less stressful for us. We knew exactly what to expect.

We had to be to the hospital at 9:30 a.m. He had not had anything to eat since 9:30 p.m. the night before. We were instructed to not feed him anything solid past 3:30 am and only clear liquids or water until 7:30 a.m. I really didn't want to wake him up at 3:00 to feed him, so we put him to bed later than normal for two reasons: 1- he could eat food just before bed, and 2-we knew he would sleep in later the next morning. I'm glad it was in the morning this time (I-girl's was at 12:30 in the afternoon) because it made the going without food part not so bad. It really worked out great. I had to wake him up at 8:30, and he headed straight to the hospital.

He loved playing with this little car in the waiting room. We knew he was getting hungry because he found some food crumbs in the bottom of the stroller and tried to eat them, but Mike noticed it and took it away from him. Luckily there were plenty of toys to distract him from his hunger.

This picture was taken just before he got his IV.
The nurse said he had "fat arms". I asked if that was a bad thing, and she said it is when she is looking for a vein. Poor little guy ended up having the IV put in his foot (I didn't even know that was possible!) They had to stick him twice because they couldn't find the vein on the first try. Mike held him during all of this, and when I looked at his foot, he had two needles in it. I didn't know what was going on because I was standing outside of the room for most of it. Mike explained it to me afterwards.

Even the dinosaur bandage didn't cheer him up. I don't blame him. I can't imagine what it felt like to have an IV his little foot.

Just a side note, all of the nurses kept commenting on his blue eyes. The last time we had him to the ER, the first nurse told all of the other nurses to come to our room and see the cute little boy with the gorgeous blue eyes. It makes me wonder how much he is going to appreciate those blue eyes in about 14 years from now. So far, all three of our kids have blue eyes. Mike and I hoped they would because we both have them.

A few minutes later, they took us to the MRI room. There, they sedated him. When they laid him on the MRI table, he would occasionally move around, so they ended up having to give him more medicine in his IV to calm him down. When I-girl had her MRI, she was out fast and didn't move at all.

Mike and I left for about 20 minutes to get a snack, and when we came back, he was finished with his MRI, and was in the "resting room". He was suppose to sleep for at least 2 hours after the exam because of the sedative that he was given.

This little guy decided that he was only going to sleep for an hour though. He woke up all disoriented, but took down three glasses of apple juice pretty quickly. I'm sure he was hungry.

After, we decided the best place to take him for lunch would be to Chuck-A-Rama. He downed mashed potatoes, jello and french fries like he had never seen food before. Here is a shot of him shoving a french fry in his mouth. He also decided to flirt with the teenage girl sitting behind us. He's starting way too young.

The rest of the day, he was really loopy, and kept falling over when he tried to walk. We tried to keep him from walking, but that doesn't work out very well with a 17 month old. By 7:15, he was tired again, so we put him down and he slept so good. I'm sure he was happy that yesterday was behind him. We should find out the beginning of next week the results of the MRI.
