Canning Etc.
Last Wednesday, I went to my friend Charisse's house and picked apples. She has 4 apple trees and was kind enough to call and tell me that I could come and pick some to bottle. I love to visit Charisse. We went to high school together, and we both have three kids, just about the same ages too. We have seen each other more this summer than we have in the past three years. She also let me pick some of her apricots too.
I picked about two bushel of two different kinds of apples. They were so yummy. I'm not sure what kind they are, but one was green and the other one was red/green, it looked like a Fiji or gala apple. I was able to do 14 pints of apple sauce, 5 quarts of pie filling, and just for fun, I decided to try something different, and did 5 quarts of apple juice.
This is Ivy smashing the apples.
This is the final product of last week's canning. It took me four days to finish the apples, in between everything. I also did 7 quarts of beans, and 11 half pints of plum jam. Our backyard neighbors have a plum tree and let us pick the ones on our side. Up next: peaches, and grape juice.
This is what Mason looks like when I'm canning and he is awake, begging for me to pick him up. I try to do as much as I can while he is taking his afternoon nap.

Last week my parents found an awesome garage sale find for Mason, these snow pants, plus an old navy winter coat for $5.00! They are both in perfect condition and just what we needed this winter. Mason was so funny when we put these snow pants on him. He walked around the house just like this. I reminded me of the boy on "A Christmas Story".
So, this picture has nothing to do with anything, but I just wanted to post this photo of this little .25 cent Barbie radio that we found at a garage sale this past summer. It has been the source of much consternation in our house, even for little 18 month old Mason. Everyone of my kids want to play with it. We have had to hide it several times, or take it away as a punishment because they won't stop fighting over it. It plays the most annoying songs over and over again, so I've been making the kids go outside when they want to play with it. I have not heard it for a few days, and I don't even know where it it, so maybe it was left outside in the rain yesterday (one can only hope!)
