Grapes

On Tuesday last week, we started picking the grapes in our garden. On Friday, we finished with 3 1/2 bushels! It's doubled every year, last year we picked two bushels, and two years ago, it was 1 bushel. I finished the final quarts of juice on Saturday, and afterwards gave my stove a good cleaning. It had turned purple. We planted 5 concord grape plants and 1 red grape plant in the spring of 2005. We ended up with 39 quarts of grape juice and 16 1/2 pints of grape jelly. My girls love this grape juice and ask for it every day.

The grapes have to be taken off the vines before we can steam them, so that is what my awesome family is doing! This is Scotlyn and Ivy helping me make jelly. Ivy is showing the sugar on her hands that she was licking off.

Here is the final product. It has been a good canning year for us. We filled all but 30 of the bottle we had downstairs, and we have a lot of bottles. It's been a lot of fun, but I'm glad it is over. Now we can enjoy our harvest this winter!
